Summary/Description
|
THAA was born in 1998, registered under the the Society Act, 1975 of Tamil Nadu. The word Tamil was spelt as Thamil not just as as mere exercise in phonetics, but to also derive the abbreviation as THAA. THAA in Tamil means 'give'. We demand our fundamental and human rights denied since ages. THAA is totally governed by Aravanis and it is BY the Aravanis, FOR the Aravanis and TO the Aravanis. |

Objectives
- To provide shelter to those who have been abandoned; and to provide
a residing place to those who have been denied rental places to live.
- To avail medical, legal and educational facilities, through programs
and projects sanctioned by the Govt. (National & State)
- To lobby with the Govt. legislation with respect to employment quota,
allocating of funds for the upliftment of the Hijra / Aravanis.
- To raise the right of awareness of the medical and health problems f
the Hijra / Aravanis.
- To encourage the Hijra / Aravanis of other places to start self help
groups.
- To network with other Govt., quasi-govt agencies, NGOs, CBOs.
- To advocate strong legislative measures to protect individual rights
and principles of social justice.
- To improve the economic conditions and empowering them in creating self-employment
opportunities.
- Care and support for HIV/AIDS infected and affected Hijra / Aravanis.
- To work in all aspects for the betterment of the Hijra / Aravani community.

Prevention
- Conduct interventions for 3000 members on STD, HIV/AIDS
- Awareness programs for public
Medical
- Conduct medical camps for Hijra / Aravanis to identify and diagnose
symptoms of STD, HIV.
- Treatment of STD, HIV and opportunistic infections.
Legal / Human Rights
- Create a core legal support group to handle legal issues.
- Fights for the issues pertaining to human rights.
Care and Support
- a 8 bed stay home for the HIV infected
- Counseling provided for HIV infected and affected
- Terminal care for patients with no support
